today was the long awaited youth gospel rally. we spent so many months planning it and today it the D-day! some pictures (including some behind-the-scenes, especially that of the making of the infamous fruit cocktail)

see the fruit and veggie stickers there? we had 12 groups. at first i thought it might have had some significance, like maybe the 12 tribes of Israel. but then soon found out it was random. haha. so the group names were oranges, pumpkin, tropics (banana, watermelon, pineapple stickers), purple nurple (mangosteen, eggplant, grapes stickers), granny smith, jalapeños, lemon & lime, peas in a pod, condiments (tomatoes & chilli), cabbage patch, stew (mushroom & potato) and carrots.

(mr josiah aka fishball apparently even tho i have no idea why, parading stickers like rank. btw, it reads, "hi, my name is, josiah tan". he had 3 on the right and left sleeve and 3 on the front.)

ready for you to guess the fruits we used to blend it together! (: actually, if the juice blend wasn't purple, i would have thought it just to be banana juice. then there was the forfeit as well which has stronger tasting fruits (like durain, soursop, jackfruit, mango, papaya...) oddly, andrew preferred the forfeit blend rather than the drinking blend. but honestly the fruit blends weren't half bad. all we needed was lots of ice and some yoghurt and we could've set up a smoothie stall!

regarding the previous post on gg. i take back what i said about it being totally superficial. i think sometimes, the episodes present real life issues (in a decidedly upscale setting) and give real insights.

i mean, i think its really really amazing how even though chuck, nate and blair all hate each other to smithereens, yet would still work together as a united front for serena. i mean i guess that's real friendship. you fight and argue and probably do despicable and selfish things (not on purpose), but yet when it comes to the crunch, you'll still be there for that person. i think it beats having superficial friends who say they'll be there for you, and things most of the time are in happy lala land, but when you really need them they aren't there. that and people who are two-faced. but thats another story. i can't say i've really experienced that. but was just musing. i don't particularly like expounding on emotional baggage online. its something too private for a domain so public. haha. reminds me of the other day, i had a conversation with my sis. san was saying emos stood for (i forget. but i think it was something about emotional monsters.) i said it was "emotionally motivated or stupid". i think that makes more sense. haha. awhells.

and now, *drumroll*, ladies and gentlemen. the moment you've all been waiting for! introducing...

okay. just cotty. no solomon. okay? i mean. he's a rabbit. he can't be named after the wisest (yet very promiscuous king - 300 wives, 700 concubines) king that ever lived. i like cotty. its like cotton? but cuter. cotty. (:

he's precious! ain't he? (:

and the story goes dad bought it for sherwin. his rationale being sherwin was born (according to the chinese zodiac calender) in the year of the rabbit. that was in response to my protest that when i wanted a rabbit, i didn't get one. but when sherwin wanted one, he got one (a rabbit along with a laptop, crumpler, handphone, mp3 player - but he doesnt use that one, so its with dad). dots. then i said, then i should have a dragon then. and dad quickly retorted, "but its not real." and then san and i, almost simultaneously said, "then sandra should get a horse!" but of course it would be unrealistic cos we don't have the space, its so much bigger, its so much more expensive. blah blah blah. excuses. :p lysa wants to introduce cotty to taro (her border collie) which of course immediaely i protested. cotty would end up being a snack for taro (ironic considering the name taro). haha.

(edited: andrew and i were walking home when we saw a white rabbit hop past. we were thinking, wait. we just got a rabbit. that can't be ours. can it? turns out, it wasn't. it was full grown and belonged to our neighbour just down the road (nearby where we found the rabbit actually. apparently, her name was snowball. and she spends half her time digging up the garden. i wish i had a garden for cotty to dig up too.)

and i made this notebook. custom order. it was supposed to just be pink and white. but i can't make a notebook that's just pink and white?!! it was supposed to be full of hearts and look "ah lian" (chinese slang for girl gangster). but i don't do ah lian, thank you. besides, i needed an excuse to use my chipboard trees and zig zag dotter. ((:

OKAY. that was a looooooong post. i'm tired. btw, the pictures from today's youth gospel rally are uploaded onto shutterfly. check link at the sidebar! nights!

p/s: sherwin made my day. we were driving to j8, my mom was driving. and sherwin suddenly said, "mom, i think you better let da jie (big sister) drive." haha. oh man. (:

ahhh!! episode 14, 15, 16 AND 17 is out!!!!!!!!! (okay, maybe i'm just slow. thanks netta and san for the heads up!) and the drama [finally] resumes. this is addictive...btw, i really think dan and serena are really REALLY adorable together. yes. i know this is shallow and superficial, but its a nice distraction. swap scrap day!

today, netta and i had a swap (an album) scrap day! we did 3 pages for each other and then binded it. (:

albums aren't exactly completed yet, but the basics is there. will probably edit here and there soon, and then will post up pictures. (:

then san msged me to say she was giving mom flowers and a card tonight (mom's coming back from malaysia). so i frantically started making a 5.5" x 5.5" layout for mom. did it in a nifty, but i quite like it. its like chocolate with raspberry sauce! (:

the road to creativity

started to organise again. everytime i organise, i find things i didn't know i had. and that somehow, inadvertedly spurs creativity. so pictures of reorganising...

i finally decided to colour code my buttons! i used empty glass bottles that used to contain some of my prima flowers and coffee jars.

all sitting pretty in a row. i covered the tops with the colour of the buttons for easy reference.

yesterday was our anniversary. but we've both been rather busy so we didn't really celebrate it, but we will later in the week. so i made this little flip book for him as a card. it was done really quickly, so it isn't elaborate but simple.

okay, and i got these lovely agate gemstone pieces. i want to do a series of pendants. still thinking of the design. hopefully would get it done soon.

albums and organising

the weather here in singapore has been sweltering. its been really really warm, and i cant seem to stay in my room to create without breaking into perspiration. i think i prefer creating on rainy days. anyhow, weather talk aside, last saturday i went for a mini album class with netta and janice. we made this:

the main reason why i wanted to go for the class was because i wanted to try using a varied range of materials to distress. so far, my scrapbooking know-how has been mostly self-taught - reading books and magazines, reading blogs and websites. but i guess the good thing about going for classes is that i ensure i finish an album in a stipulated time. plus, i learn new techniques and perspectives - and i suppose learning it the proper way.

so then it kinda inspired a album swap. decided to try doing the swap with netta. it would be mostly a 6 x 6 album. thats the raw pages and cover there. but so far, i've been drawing a blank. i'm not sure how to go about designing the album and i'm not even sure what the album is going to be used for. i'm thinking something along the lines of "growth" and "self-actualisation". maybe using maslow's hierarchy of needs - physiological, safety, belonging, self-esteem, self-actualisation. i'm thinking either a documentation of the satisfaction of these needs or how i might want to pursue them or something just along that line. basically how to become a better person - in fact how does one become better? the criteria? the goals or aims or methods to go about it.

on another note, i tweaked my paper organisation again. put the scraps into smaller resealable bags, made sure the papers were where they meant to be. and...

a CLEAR STAMPS FOLDER! (:
yupp! very happy with this. i made my own pockets with resealable packets and reinforced them with eyelets. then i realised the folder i used for the stamps was just enough for the number of clear stamps i had. so i might have to find a larger folder in the future. but for now, i'm very pleased with it. i labelled the stamps as well-the brand and series. so if you're tight on budget but need a clear stamps folder, don't buy it, make it. its just as nice if not better. (:

breakfast today: aloe vera yoghut with tonnes of strawberries!

started to get a small blister while wearing my birks, not too used to madrid you see. i usually wear gizeh. anyhow, this called for a macro shot!

the fountain pen nib was a macro shot too. the picture above didn't have a shadow but the bottom one did. and the bottom pic was clearer. so i'm guessing its got something to do with the lighting.

and hazel droppped by mwl! so we took some pics...

and i decided to mod podge. something. what it is i will share soon hopefully. still trying to come up with a project that would require mod podege. (:

and school is starting soon. would you believe it but i miss studying a little. so preping myself by buying stationery! (:

and the macro challenge ensues...

(yesterday) dinch at cavana - dinch is the phrase andrew and i coined for a dinner-lunch meal. kinda like brunch? and i realise cavana reminds me of havanas. cavana was pretty decent considering the price. but its just chicken rice. not to-die-for but as a quick meal its easy on the pockets.

decided to try a night shot. this is from a pot of bougainvilleas just outside my house.

onion rings? was preparing dinner for andrew and i. realised the onion had nice concentric patterns. this is the close-up.

this one shows the onion in its entirety.

so this was the dinner! garlic-cheddar-bacon-egg mash with mushroom pasta and ritzy chicken cutlets.

then today after class we went to coffeebean at millennia walk. liked the pattern on the coffee cup holder so another marco shot!
and then the fabric on the couch. its patterned coffebeans!

andrew was surfing the net with his iTouch so i busied myself with the camera. haha.

oOohh! and then outdoor shots. i saw some really really pretty orange flowers. no idea what they're called though.
and then decided i needed macro shots of those flowers...
the colours are stunning isn't it? its times like these when i see God's creation that i feel especially awed. i mean he created and pre-planned each and every one of it. beautiful ain't it?

and i got very pretty new birks!!! french garden. how apt. its so lovely and reminicient of vintage english gardens. need to create. more likely need to bead. i haven't done anything for squiggletown lately. but i have loads of stuff i want to do. its a good thing i have a notebook handy for times like these. so new works are in the planning. hopefully would be out within the week! paint, splash, colour!

i got a day off today! not sure why but i'm embracing it! loving the time i can finally have to just create. i don't usually start the day off with a blog post, but when i saw my little tubers of paint just sitting there, i knew that it would be for today's marco challenge entry.

been trying to take pictures in perspectives. looking at things in a macro view-the big picture, before zooming in on the smaller details.

so these shoots were the ones i tried taking - i originally wanted to take marco shoots of the acrylic paint, but it didn't turn out too well. i couldn't figure from which angle it'd be best to take the shoots. then i saw the bunch of scissors i had sitting next to the paints and tried the macro on that instead...and guess what?

i looooove these colours. got lots of ideas swimming around, will try to translate them to paper or canvas or beads soon. (:

stamps and a card

made this card today for netta. theme: oranges and pinks. very happy, bright and clean feel...i definitely need to find time to do a piece that encapsulates lots of vintagey and collage elements soon.

i finally got my foam stamps!! (: last week i was given the wrong set, and when they brought in more stock from the warehouse yesterday, i was told this was the last set of this particular font. THANK GOD. haha, i'm elated! played with them straightaway (yes, i used the foam stamps for the word "netta").

also, been making my own stamps again. (: the last time i did this was in sec 2...i think from then, my carving skills have improved. well, hopefully, or at least i think so...haha. okay, this has to be a quick post cos i need to rush off to work. laters!

mwl staff crop

on friday, 11th april, we had a mini staff crop. it was actually to show us the different ways we could use the products they had and how to promote it. but it was so fun. there were products there that theoretically i knew how to use, but either never got a chance to or wasn't that intrigued by it. but it was such great fun. andrew was really sweet, he actually stayed with me throughout the crop just to be with me, even tho he isn't that interested in scrapbooking. thanks babe! made this journal i titled "reel life". its meant for me to journal stuff about exercising, food and generally just being healthy. need to lose weight, as usual.

mr munchkin man

lately, i've been feeling like my grasp of the english language is rapidly deteriorating. while in junior college, i did literature. so we were practically forced to read like 6 books over 2 years in depth and a gazillion poems. the books weren't chick flicks or anything of the sort. it was heavyweights like classics and shakespeare. and i kinda miss that. at least i felt occassionaly i connected with the great minds who wrote these inspirations. so on a whim, i bought a jane austen - sense and sensibility. i haven't really had the time to sit and just read. but so far it has been okay. really hoping it'll get me out of the widening blackhole of the lack of proper english.

okay, so my parents just came back from KL. they got me this pretty wired butterfly stand. its made by a man in a wheelchair. its really odd - everytime i see crafts like these, they are usually made by people who are apparently disabled. but with talent like that, it wouldn't be right to call them disabled. intead of it being just left on my desk, i decided to use it to prop notes for me to remember.

on monday, andrew was sick. so he took a mc. so we had breakfast together! (: we tried the new mcgriddles. its basically a sausage mcmuffin with pancakes instead of burgers. griddles. i like the name. i think i shall make a pair of earrings and name it griddles.

guess what came in the mail yesterday?!!!!! my licence!!!!!!!!! now i don't have to show people my pathetic slip of paper that says "you may drive while awaiting your licence" or something to that effect. haha. i look like a dork there. i know. but i took the picture last year. and i was too excited when i passed to take another. so i didn't. so i just stuck with this. this picture is on my passport as well. so AHWELLS. its only a picture. yes. thats what i keep telling myself.

the second sign is in hokkien dialect. translated it basically means one person is scared to lose (kiasu), while the other is scared to die (kiasi), so drive safely. my parents are such comedians. they gave me that from their recent trip to KL. ironically my licence came in the mail that day too. irony. the bane of it all.

made a batch of mini cupcakes. i'm calling them my minicakes. yes. so sandra took 2 from me while they were fresh out of the oven and because i was out of icing sugar, i couldn't make icing. so i just dribbled some confetti and choc chips. and there came munchkin man and his lady friend. (:

okay, more soon. going to do stock in today again. shall be sure to bring my camera. will try to get some pictures of the mayhem.

we had dinner with the orchards at the hong kong street cafe. i only managed to snap a few pictures during the meal. the rest were quickly served and eaten. haha.

marche for lunch. it seems like the only branch we could find left was at viv too bad. food wasn't too bad, its just that it was a tad bit too oily for my liking. but, the hot chocolate was heavenly. think, velvety, and RICH.

mom bought sherwin easter eggs! we opened the wonka egg. i think sherwin looks really good in these pictures. i think we were half hoping for golden tickets to pop out of the egg. :D

good friday dinner at manhattan fish market. we ate the platter for 2 again (with flamed prawns). its excellent. i especially love the garlic rice and prawns.

andrew and i were walking back when we passed by my neighbours backyard and saw SEVEN chickens in it. yepp. 7! haha. wow. lots of eggs for them i suppose. there was a certain modern kampong vibe...

campaign at takashimaya. at first mel and i thought it was greenpeace or global warming or something to that effect. but it was actually an anti-smoking campaign. or a campaign that helps smokers (in particular ladies) quit smoking. the words are made up of loads and loads of gerberas! and they were giving gerberas out to publicise as well.

was studying the past few days...well part of the time, when i wans't distracted by scrapping...or beading...or baking. but anyhow! school's done, exams are over, so shall be able to update more now. cant wait to bead. loads of new ideas swimming around in my head. need to pin them down. anyhow, pictures from the past week or so...

opal skyline

captured these at bishan park and outside my house. i don't think i took good shots, because it doesn't do the skyline justice. okay, let me try to paint the skyline. the sun was peeping behind the clouds, and there was a smattering of colours peeping out from behind. the sunlight split the colours so it looked like a cross between a prism and a rainbow. the colours smudged and melded into the skyline, giving this ethereal yet phantasmagorical feel! it was mesmerising. it was brighter while i was at bishan park, but i didn't have my camera at hand. so i borrowed my dad's phone to snap a shot. then spotted it outside my house when i cycled back, so grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots. but by then it was getting dark - rain clouds. so ahwells. but it really was beautiful.

added a bit more bits and embellishments to my diary. makes scheduling more fun i feel. (:

and to my notebook. haha. okay.

watched waterhorse and horton! waterhorse was alright. the story was touching. and its like fairytales. gives you that hope to believe in magic and stories. that at the end of it all good would prevail. even if everything seems so hopeless and dire. it reminded me a bit of peter pan II (yes, there is a part II. haha. i watched it on disney channel). both shows are set in countries struggling with war (i'm guessing its WWII). while one in scotland and the other in britain, still similarities are there. the entire movie was kinda dark though...

horton on the other hand is really enjoyable. its light-hearted, funny, and the animation is fantastic! makes you want to read dr. suess all over.

i suppose i should get back to studying. i should. really. but (why oh why must i!)

was pleasantly surprised on sunday with a belated birthday gift of hot chocolate early sunday morning when i reached church. tried taking a picture if it in the church library, and i really like the effect or colour. it looks like an old photo. i'm not sure if my camera has a setting for that. should try to experiment more...i think its more likely the lighting of the room.

lunch! mushrooms and scallops in cream sauce, mozerella garlic mashed potatoes, mini chicken cutlets. mMmm.

paper roses! i learnt how to make these at the sarah senior booth at the jumbo jumble fair at PHS. the cookie monster container is actually sherwin's old milk bottle. haha. okay. need to study now.

inspired by a poster elsie drew! the theme is dealing with the parable of the sower (Matthew 13). so there are the 4 types of soil: the wayside, the stoney ground, the thorns and the good ground. some random food picture which i shall explain shortly. the almond filled bottles are an idea of what you could use empty class bottles for. the sweets at the bottom left are like a blast from the past! i used to eat these as a child, didnt know they still existed. heart shaped cut fruits. my version of carbonara + prawns and shrooms. not bad. needs more salt tho.

natural scrub

sugar body scrub!

i saw this while reading Shape, so thought i'd try it. its pretty good for targeted dry spots.

cut orange into half
juice one halve of the orange, keep other half intact
to the juice add olive oil and coarse sugar granules
mix well
use intact halve of orange as loofah and rub over dry spots (like elbows, kneecaps, heels)
rub sugar mixture over said dry spots
wash off with water

an alternative would be a salt body scrub.
this is taken from a book "bikini fit".

take a handful of coarse salt
add two teaspoons of oilve oil to form paste
rub salt mixture over

ohh, and i received an email from my mom. while eating, its better to drink warm water. the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. and this would slow down the digestion. once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. it will line the intestine and soon turn into fats and lead to cancer. therefore, it is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

so keep fit and be healthy! (darn, now i'll need to exercise...)

lunch. i cooked chicken cutlets the way my grandma taught me - chicken dipped in egg and cracker crumbs. ingredients few as it may seem, its really good. tender yet tasty!

then baked cupcakes using my favourite recipe. yummy yummy! the top is slightly crisp. the inside is chewy. not too sweet. moist. just right. (:

saw this book while walking, thought it was really pithy and ironic. (:

buffet at koshinbo. SUPER good!! but it'd be more worth it (1) if we went earlier, and (2) we went on a weekday. haha. yea, but still. i mean we stuffed ourselves silly (while at the same time trying not to fit into the usual kiasu singaporean profile) but the very next day after church when we looked through the photos again, we felt like eating it all over! the tempura and crab and lobster and scallops and sushi and sashimi and (are you salivating yet?!) haha. yupp. good deal. should go try it people! (goodness i'm giving them publicity. haha)

sunday night we celebrated grandma's birthday!

and today, we celebrated hanisha (02/03) and stella's (06/03) birthday! we bought them matching bodyshop stuff, seeing as how they were born 4 days apart. and today was the last day of school! yayness. ohh. and i'm going to try to apply for a job at mwl. hope i get it. think it'd be very fun.

once upon a time, there were four friends. and they were on a mission. a mission to get the scoop on what makes a company (play "n" learn) tick. so they took a trip down to see for themselves. after asking thought provking and hard hitting questions, they decided they needed a more hands-on experience in order to fully write this report well. they didn't want to do it, but they finally relented. they needed to get their hands dirty. they plunged in, right deep into the crystal puzzle to find the answers they needed.

presenting the evidence. the pieces of the puzzle fitted (literally), although some of them took more time to reach the same conclusion (no names shall be mentioned to protect the innocent). but they got the answer! they got the answers they had been searching for, and they realised the company embodied the virtue that they had forgotten, that in order to grow, one had to play and learn.

and so they did. they embraced the calling. and decided that they would play and learn. (naturally, some did more than others.)

my weekend was mediacorp

danny yeo was the lecturer for the tv module. it was really interesting. the lecture wasn't too dry and he even made us play a game (the receiver & transmitter), which quite apparently was the mass media communication model. but fun nonetheless (we also discovered ivan's knack of making astonishingly accurate, annoying and startling stark crow squawks)

after which san and i rushed to rtc for a quick game of bowling and dinner, before heading to church for the video screening on darwinism. the evidence was that all life on earth was created by intelligent design and not through the means of random natural selection was compelling. the organism used to back this debate was the microscopic bacterial flagellum. an organism so small, yet with such an intricate mechanical design. defenitely was food for thought.

so the next day we had to produce a 3min beginning to a television programme. naturally my genre was toward that of art and craft. so i had a martha steward-art attack- david tutera kinda segment. basically it was a DIY craftshow called "squiggletown" and various episodes would feature different art mediums. for the first episode i choose notebooks. so i explained the various types of notebooks one could make at home and was going to demonstrate how to make a glue binded notebook after the break. i think all things considered, it went pretty well. so yea, i'm not too bogged by it. but with that over, it means there's no extra homework! (THANK GOD) because this week 3 assignments are due. which i need to get back to soon...

after which, we had steamboat at mae's house! it was a pity that the rest couldn't make it and it was just the 9 of us. so after mediacorp, we made a trip to ntuc at tp and then took an incredibly long bus ride to siglap. goodness. but thanks mae for opening your house! apart from the burping contests and raw cabbage forfeits, i think it was a pretty rad night.

bible ball is a game i created to teach my sunday school lesson. basically you throw a dice and answer a question. if you're right, you move the number of steps the dice shows. finish a round and its a homerun. the team with the most homeruns wins! so yea. haha.

found some random hand and foot pictures in my com from over the past few years...i would like to direct your attention to the top left picture. haaha. okay, i've been searching for a ring that looks just like that. and i managed to find it! and andrew so thoughtfully got it for me. for some reason, i get the feel that it looks like a medieval-tiara feel to it. anyhow, i think its GORGEOUS. so there. ohh, and in case you're wondering why one hand looks bigger than the other in the bottom left picture, cos one hand is mine and the other is andrew's - the result of pure boredom. (: ohh and the french manicure, that was one of the RARE times i managed to do it properly, increasingly i feel like i'm lacking the patience for such things. and top right - pretty stripey bow shoes! yes, we watched juno over ps. i love you and jumper. but i do want to watch ps. i love you. but juno was pretty good. exeptionally thought provoking, be it indirectly or otherwise.

we almost tried the couple special they had, but then the soup of the day was veg soup..so that was quite a turn off. so we had fried mushrooms, mushroom chicken mayo pizza and the classic fish and chips! ohh, and for desset we had fondue. superb!

took a tour of RSI (Radio Singapore International) again with Belinda Sunshine. took turns pretending we were radio presenters interviewing people for talkshows.

27/01/08 - sunday {mediacorp}

radio recording studio. very cool. jean danker, jamie teo and other radio presenters used this studio. the polaroids show some of the people who've been in here. ali and thomas were helping us to record. liz and i did a gossip girl interview! very fun. (:

28/01/08 - breakfast {pancakes with bananas, maple syrup and butter}
29/01/08 - muffins {butter & sugar-free!}
by some amazing default, i concocted a muffin recipie! actually, its more like a muffcone. a hybrid muffin and scone. there's absolutely no butter and no sugar in it! i did use organic maple syrup tho. but i think its relatively healthy. aaaaand! its great with organic marmelade! it started with me needing to use a tub of sour cream, and not having enough ingredients for a suggested muffin recipie on the cover, thereby me doing a ad-hoc dumping of ingredients (i decided to add milk to ensure the consistency was right and left out lots of other stuff like apricot nectar and apricots) and amazingly (thank GOD), it turned out pretty decent. i had a couple of food tasters try it yesterday. apart from it being not sweet and a little bland, i'd say it was a success! a variation would be to add apricots and almonds. (:

30/01/08 - birthday party {mae's 21st}
we surprised mae in class! we did a cork board with loads of handwritten notes and pinned it up. then some of us bought a bag and inside the bag we put the smaller presents from the rest inside. so at first when angelo came in to give mae her present from him, she thought he was the only one who had a present for her. and she was hinting that at least *someone* bought her a present. haha. then after break eileen, suzy and nurul lured her out of class while shuyan and i quickly put up the rest of the notes and set up the noticeboard with the presents. i managed to wrap it by making a custom-sized paper bag. inside, i tried co-ordinating the wrappers, so most of the wrappers had an element of pink or at least were whole shades of pink. she was really surprised by the extent of the presents. and got a shock when she realised there were MORE presents inside the bag! haha. classic.

then we proceeded to east coast, costa island resort. my goodness. the bus ride was like *super* long. almost an hour?!! then while walking by mandarin gardens, crystal and i spotted some tennis balls, so we picked them up. haha. might use them tmr when playing tennis! (: but the party was really fun. the barbeque was fantastic! the chicken and sausages were especially succulent. and we played freeze&melt catching and the category game. my goodness. it was like primary school all over again! haha. but fun. then there was a long session of phototaking! we took photos with us using our fingers to form various numbers from 1 to 5.

okay. the dell guy just came to fix zimba. and i'm happy to say she's got a clean bill of health!!! (: the basics are there - ie. internet, cd burner, mircosoft system...but word/ppt and my files are programmes are still not in here. but thats the "easier" bit i suppose. (: so hopefully zimba will be back up and running full speed again. i guess the "face-lift" has cleaned out lots of those other viruses and odd programmes that i don't use. so yay! (: more soon hopefully. gotta go school now. but its pouring donkeys. *sigh*

bad bad news

okay. my hard drive has crashed. so i'm momentarily without my photoshop, documents and iTunes. i still have my pictures (thank GOD for a portable hard drive) but they cant be edited to a smaller size (if the picture above took longer than usual to load, you know why). therefore i cant upload the pictures that we took at mediacorp the past two days up on flickr (please spread the word). but BUT! i assure you, once dell has fixed my lappie i'll upload said pictures and update squiggletown of all the new items. (:

in case you're wondering, i'm using my mom's tablet pc for now (refer to picture above). yes, its so small, its shorter than my nalgene and smaller than A4 sized paper. yes. which means my fingers keep tapping the wrong keys. ahwells. praying really hard my lappie will be fixed asap with the important programmes and documents intact (yes, my assignments and project documents are in there!!)

for some reason i'm feeling withdrawal syndromes of not being able to use my lappie to search, blog, upload, surf as i please. shows the immense and inordinate dependancy i have on technology. bad bad bad. goodness, the com isn't even showing me if i'm making any spelling errors whilst typing this entry - no red squiggly lines. i miss my lappie. think i'm going to name her. hmm, i shall name her zimba, after my russ lion. and cos she's pretty rugged, been with me for 3 years, and some accidents involving the LCD screen and hinges and whatnot. yes. zimba. okay, i miss zimba. hope they fix her soon.

bought new square bowls! (: very pleased with them decided to reorganise my craft area so that i didnt need to constantly take out the paint, keep it back in the box, and out again. oh the hassle. so now its in pretty bowls!

see thats the paint corner. my buckets, bowls and watering cans of paints, brushes, sponges. all the colours and the ikea print for inspiration!

we finally got to eat our half-priced gelare waffles. it would have been perfect with honey and butter, sadly there was none. but the waffle itself was pretty buttery so thats okay. oh. and a little incident at macs today. here goes the tale. i ordered meself an apple pie and cappuccino, but lo and behold! while drinking it, the coffee tasted oddly more milky than usual. so i thought perhaps they gave me a latte instead. but the more i drank, the more intense the milk aftertaste was. so i opened the lid. under the white foam, was white liquid - they gave me a cup of hot milk. haha, so i walked back to macs with my group mates, under the guise of a toilet break and got my coffee in my milk. so check your coffee! you'll never know, it might just be milk.

the food was delish! everything from the spaghetti to the homemade garlic bread to the satay to the very gorgeous chocolate cake. see i took pictures of the food, then we got carried away with eating and youtube-ing and talking till it was time for the cake. then jon khoo blew his candles and made 2 wishes (cos he had 2 cakes) and shared his prayer requests for the year ahead.

it was a nice party, but i'm thinking i still would like mine (if any at all) to be a really simple thing. like maybe a movie marathon (mel and i got a whole list of movies we wanted to catch but didnt, ha.) so yea, we'll see. (:

i packed myself a tupperware of spaghetti sauce and ritz for lunch. and the lousy tupperware leaked! so while cleaning up my bag, i splayed out my stuff on the table. my ipod, phone, clutch, pencilcase (tiggerifically adorable), notebooks, post-its!, notes, (*breathe*), specs, umbrella, mints, foolscap (which reminds me i want sherwin to get me one of his acs exam pads), another tupperware with multi-vits and my pouch (with the very essential tea tree oil, air-tight clip [you'll never know when you have an open bag of snacks that needs clipping up!], and lipsmackers [reminder: need more!]). yes. haha.

decided to make bacon asparagus skewers! (: yummy yummy. especially when its roasted, the smell of roasted crisp bacon is heavenly! and black pepper beef with mushroom sauce. the beef is a little tough, should have seared the beef first, and then chuck it into the mushroom sauce.

I FINALLY GOT TO USE MY LEMON SQUEEZING APPARATUS THING. haha. sorry. the other day i went to ikea and bought an egg whisk (yes i have a whisk specially for eggs) and this lemon thing. i finally got to use it. (: such fun, the little joys in life.

this is the funniest thing. somehow sandra's phone's spacebar wasn't working. so this is how she's been messaging. i love my phone to bits (you can see its literally in bits, the gold is peeling off). but i really love it. i think this is the nicest phone i have had. pity the paint is peeling and the leather got scratched. *sigh* ohh, and i loooove the guitar background (thanks to shuyan!).

this is a birthday present andrew and i made. its a really simple notebook. but since its meant as a book to reflect, i thought the design should be kept plain and not cluttered.

{part one} of andrew's birthday present. its an organiser (a slim notebook, with months and some blank pages, so i tried to keep the embellishment as flat as possible.) - 15months so it'll can still be used next year.

i was frantically typing out my storyboard and ptc at the donut factory cafe. i really like the concept and the feel of the place. might even consider studying there. (: so whilst embroiled in the "intrigue and lure of 18th century piracy", i enjoyed my cappuccino and donuts. poor andrew and to time my storyboard every few minutes.

mediacorp & stone grill

both sets of pictures are from yesterday, though i had mediacorp again today, but today was mostly class and filming our ptc (person to camera) - which is the part where the newscaster is reporting live, we had to do a mock storyboard to come up with the ptc. i did my story on pirates - which i like. i find pirates really really fascinating. i can still remember me ptc:

“Real Pirates” will present real history in an engaging manner that will appeal to all. The exhibit tells the story of real pirates – the life they led, the legends they created, the loot they acquired. This would provide a glimpse into the intrigue and lore that surrounds 18^th century piracy and how the team continues to plough through to discover more, hoping to unravel the mystery that is piracy. Sheryl Ong, Channel News Asia, Cincinnati."

(did you see the alliteration?? life, legends, loot? i don't even know if cna has a correspondent in Cincinnati. but ahwells! fictional ain't it? *grin* )

HAHA. yes. its only about 30sec long. but it took me awhile to memorise and like 3 takes to get it pat down. why 3? the first was okay, but my fringe was all over my face. so take 2! so i started take 2 "real pirates... (sheryl stares blankly at the camera) oh crap. can i start again?" haha. so brilliant huh. 2 words. well then there was take 3. so despite the nerves and shaking and bad hair. its over! (well there is still the assignment but yea, the scary part is done.) (:

just some random pictures of the studio at mediacorp where they broadcast news. we even managed to catch the 4 o'clock news broadcast! if you watched it carefully (though i'm pretty sure not many people actually even watch CNA, or the news for that matter, which btw i'm going to watch the noose later-finally-but out of point), you would see us walking in and out of the recording studio (where they manage the cameras and give cues to the newscaster) and the backdrop of the set. haha. very very cool. we got to talk to the newscaster (i'm not too sure how to spell her name, so yea, but surname edwards) and see the sets, the cameras, the behind-the-scene action, and the office set-up (i even managed to spot a rollerdex!) we decided to pretend we were the new interns at CNA (i wish), thus the first snapshot above.

and andrew and i had a lovely lovely meal at stonegrill. very interesting and novel concept of cooking your raw meat yourself on a piece of astonishingly hot (400 degrees i'm told) stone. sounds so caveman and primeval. it would have been perfect if not for the fact one's clothes would get that singed bbq grill smell (but hence the name stonegrill, so i guess thats the point). but the staff were really friendly and accommodating. we tried the soup of the day (clam chowder), starter (prawns with pancetta & cheese) and the combo stonegrill (which is a platter of veal, venison, lamb and ribeye).

the soup was good, you could taste like it was made from scratch and not just a can of campbells. but andrew said it wasn't creamy enough. i thought it kind of like a mix between a minestrone (cos of the veg) with the cream and clams of the regular clam chowder. prawns pancetta and cheese? grilled? 'nuff said. it was superb! prawns were very fresh. i'm going to try making that some day. the combo was pretty good. i liked the veal and venison the best. i guess we didn't get the best cuts since it was the combo, but still good nonetheless.

vanilla butter cupcakes

yesssss! i finally baked! (score one). and i finally made light fluffy cupcakes (score two)!! previously the recipes i tried yielded nice but either dense or fudge-full (not that thats a bad thing) cupcakes. but todays cupcakes were fluffy (albeit a bit moist but that can be excused). (: and and..its the first time that sherwin actually ate something i baked (score three)! i guess cos this tastes a little like the chiffon and or butter cake he's used to eating. and he's not adventurous, he doesn't like trying chocolate cornflakes or brownies or apple pies or anything else for that matter.

from squiggletown, entry dated monday, 7 jan 2008.

spot the difference? the first day i forgot my tablecloth. but i remembered the second day (thanks mom)! notice the second day the table is neater - nicer arrangements and all (thanks andrew) and also because most of the new stuff amongst others was quickly sold on the first day (thanks to all who stopped by).

MAAD was great; meeting new people, making new friends, and getting the support from friends who dropped by just to keep me company, pitched in to help out at the booth or be it just providing entertainment (thanks lysa, mel, caleb, joshua, sk, san, vince). and for getting snacks and ferrying me to and fro (thanks dad)!

you see i've realised MAAD has shown me how one little hobby can bring people together, and its also helped me realised the many blessings life has. i don't usually wax lyrical on squiggletown, but i just felt it was expedient to state how very grateful i am to all who helped make my booth at MAAD a success. definitely a great start to the year! hopefully squiggletown would be at MAAD again soon.

and for some reason i've a compulsion to make chocolate cheesecake. or cookies. hmm.

sentosa & food for thought fair

went in through monorail, the first time for almost all of us cos previously we took cars or buses in. then we had a picnic lunch - and it was then i came up with the gilbert mix (which is really yummy but healthy nonetheless). we did the usual luge, skyride, biking, playing in the sand (making mermaid tails) - with the extra sake and ice-cream. a definite "must try again".

the fair went pretty well all things considered. the bauble collection was launched and "the quarterly" - which is the series of 4 little books, each with 3 months worth of dates and pages. coming up next - MAAD! details are as follows:

idea - bauble tags:
i found these small little baubles which i was planning to use for squiggletown. but then i realised they make such pretty embellishments for presents and also make great gift tags! these were made in a hurry. but i'll be trying to make some that are more furbished for sale. the first picture depicts the tools and stationery needed.

after camp, went out to get some craft stuff and then had a nice dinner with andrew at pizza hut. a word of caution to all who want to try it - its really filling. and while i like the pizza itself (the cheese is gorgeous!), i don't like the crust that much (which is oddly, the thing that i usually like). but the drink isn't half bad. so yea.

yf camp was really good. the fellowship, the message, the spiritual high that tends to be generated. i was going to take ALOT of pictures, but then there were so many photographers already, so i got lazy. haha. shall cope the pictures from caleb instead. anyhow, its the 21st of december, 4 days to Christmas, 6 days to driving test (which i really really want to pass), 10 days to 2008...busy busy busy!

Christmas cards

managed to finish my Christmas cards yesterday. i think for the rest of the presents shall be making little gift tags instead. i also decided to start on my diary/planner/organizer/notebook for next year. i printed out the calender for the various months and added some paper. but i'll probably embellish it as i go along. i might share various pages now and then. got this idea from ali edwards with her "December daily" album. i thought doing that to my diary might be more practical, in the sense that i'm using it daily?

went to ikea yesterday too and bought more of those little candy storage jars. (did i mention how much i love love love ikea? i want an ikea house someday with ikea beds and ikea plates with ikea jars and ikea chairs) realised i could put my embellishments in there. (: also, i'm kinda psyched about the booth squiggletown will be having at "Food for Thought" on the 23 Dec. so much to do, so little time!

daddy's off for a day trip to penang. so we had dinner with him at the airport. i love the Christmas tree there! its acrylic fish cutouts in various colours! with the lights shining thru the fishy tree, it gives off this disco effect against the ceiling. and the lights above the tables look like barnacles! ohh, and i didn't know that if you had a boarding pass, (i think) all the shops will give you 10% off your total bill!

note to self: use that to my advantage the next time.

these are actually a bit more like brownies - slightly fudgy inside. (: but for namesake, (and alliteration) they shall be called thus! thinking of making these as part of Christmas presents.

i finally cleared some space and uh, took over san's shelf space (which to my defense she wasn't using anyway! haha) and now have my little craft corner. (: the shelves present easy access to embellishments. but i couldn't fit all there, so my beading stuff and other doodads and gewgaws are stashed in ikea boxes under the table. and my study table has some too. oh, the the high cupboards. but nonetheless! finally! some semblance of a craft corner.

and my new gallon waterbottle. hahaah. no, its more for my room. think my litre nalgene (no pun intended) is still more handy.

i like this sign i saw at vivo. its for the singapore design festival or somewhat. cute huh? (batman theme song). haha.

jade factory. how to check if a jade piece is real? first, the colour (by looking through this glass thing) and second the sound. the clarity and pitch of the sound is a clear indicator.

ice-cream at the great wall anyone? i know it sounds insane. its like sub-zero yet we're eating ice-cream?!! well, cos when you climb up the great wall, its like super steep. so you end up panting and sweating. an ice-cream is a welcomed relief!

didn't get a chance to take a picture of the hotel till then. so this is how the hotel looks like. looks kinda like all those other ancient buildings huh? like the forbidden city, summer palace, heavenly temple...

our free government provided foot reflexology. there were these TCM doctors who read palms to determine the type of illness you have. and they are really accurate. they can actually tell what type of sickness you have just by looking at your face!

we finally had hotpot!! (: the meat is missing from this picture tho. they practically shaved the meat into reaaaaaaly thin slices so that they would cook almost instantly!

DAY 5: 07/12/07

the bridge we took to cross over to more shopping centres! the last day was actually mostly shopping. sadly most clothes were for winter wear, not suitable for sunny singapore.

there was a lot of veggie in our meals for the past 5 days. and so we were craving for some good ole steak! so daddy brought us to this fab western food place.

nick vujicic

i met a man today without limbs. he literally has no arms and no legs.and as cliche as it sounds, it was honestly a really sobering experience. he rejoiced in what he could do, not what he couldn't. he wasn't mechanical, he was genuine. albeit the main purpose of the service was to bring people to salvation, he really showed the strength and determination that one has when one is fully trusting in God. nick vujicic has a great sense of humour and is extremely friendly. he says he has a "hug ministry", and that "if you're shy, its okay, cos he won't lay a hand on you". and then you quickly realise, this man has no hands. he isn't afraid that he would look bad, he is really more interested in showing others, to the best of his ability, that admist his handicap, he was joyful. joy is an inexplicable emotion. its not that you don't feel depressed. it is when you do, you still have hope.

i actually wasn't looking forward to going for the service. i felt rushed. with the impending holiday, i don't have enough time with andrew as it is. but i think we're both glad we went for it. nick vujicic is really quite the motivational speaker. some would call that charisma. i think its being a good testimony.

did 2 matchbooks! putting one up for sale at squiggletown to test the waters. (: the matchbook in question is in the picture below there. there was also a file i altered. you can see the XL felt flower in the corner there. (: not sure what i'll be using the file for, but i'm sure i can find something for it! haha.

on a separate note, i did this travel journal for my brother, sherwin. we're leaving for beijing soon for holiday so he wanted a journal. i must admit for a journal that was made so speedily it turned out pretty okay! its a fabric covered exercise book with foam letters that pop out! covered with plastic book wrap to keep it waterproof! ((: i shall try to refine it and maybe it'll be up on sale at squiggletown soon!

the old layout was pretty messy. teenagey too. i just realised that i'll be twenty in 3 months. twenty is old. i mean its like the crossing from a teenager to young adulthood. twenty means there's no "teen" in your age. people are going to start blaming you fully for your mistakes. i think they'll be less forgiving too. cos you're "mature" now. yes.

well, i'm supposed to be studying. but i feel really really restless. maybe its because tmr is my last paper and i will be free for the next month. (:

took a quiz here at freerice. its really quite cool. for every vocab word you get right, you donate 10 grains of rice to the poor through UN. an average person apparently eats 3500 grains of rice. so i did my part and gave someone out there a meal. (:

there's that other thing, they grade your vocab level. was kinda disappointed i only managed to reach level 36. was reading this blog, the lady there managed to reach level 40. haha, this sounds like the way guys talk about their gaming levels. ahwells. do go try it out, help the poor at the same time too!

i ran 5km today

yes. i did!!!!!!!!
thanks to my running buddies shuyan and crystal. yay! (:
and we did so after not running for 2 weeks.
and the 2 weeks before that we were running 2.4km.
so yes, i'm a very happy girl.

oh, and my grandpa let me use some of his gemstones from his collection for squiggletown! he's got quite a bit apparently so i'm helping him sell them by doing them up a bit. you know, a little swarovski here, some czech glass there, and a dash of glitter! haha. so do check it out. here's a peek of the 5 gemstone cabochons that he polished himself. cooked this for lunch. corn, bacon, potato and mushrooms. these are a few of my favourite things---haha. favourites all in one dish with a cream based sauce! (: brought it to school for lunch and my classmates tried a bit. said it was pretty nice. yay.

and this is supper..or breakfast..or tea. healthy wholesome banana almond muffins. a twist on the usual banana walnut cupcakes. its not oily, slightly moist and springy. love the top crust! ohyea, and i made another batch of chocolate cornflakes. haha. they are just too addictive. might bring it to night safari this thursday! i finally got to meet him! haha. i did that scrapbook album for his first birthday? pictures posted in earlier entries. he's cute huh? i managed to win him over! and he seems to have taken a fascination with my handphone...

anyways!! on the scrapping side i've come up with a LO for mwl's scrap challenge. its the first time i sketched a LO before actually doing it. still need a few items tho, shall drop by mwl on friday to pick them up. also, i managed to do four 4"by4" Christmas cards! yes i know i'm early. but seeing as how i've got exams end of the month (yes, i know i have to study) and a possible holiday in dec, figured i should start early. i even started compiling my Christmas list, addresses and all - for the cards.

didnt get round to making the 4"by4" calenders (seem to have a penchant for 4"by4" LOs). i binded them already, in pretty colours, like last week, but, i dunno. creativity hasnt striked. hasnt stroke? sounds odd. ahwells. i'm still hoping to get a pretty organizer while on holiday, and then i add my own scrapping stuff to personalise it.

i realise i get interested in something, but i wont go into it right away. like i've been reading scrapping mags for ages, like at least slightly over a year ago, but i didnt try buying materials and really getting serious about scrapping till this year. oddly, its the same with beading. been beading since primary school - ever since my ee ee picked it up and taught me the basics. then it was on and off - mostly making presents for friends or just for self to wear. then last year i got serious about it and started butterfleric (which was actually my email address - the shop is now called squiggletown). sewing and baking started i must say in secondary school. home econs wasnt wasted on me i suppose. haha. the loop stiching and cooking lessons. the rest of the arty stuff was from art club.

i realise that most people concentrate on ONE craft. be it beading or scrapping, baking or sewing for that matter. and they become really good at it. i just hope i'm not being fickle or spreading myself too thin by getting interested in so many things at the same time. but i honestly feel that each stimulates the other. i'm always getting ideas for one craft by doing another craft. so yea. i suppose one has to really really enjoy what one does. but as i said in my previous post, gratification is always a sweet assurance. (:

the birdie? i got a whole series of them made as pendants on squiggletown, so i thought, why not add it to the pouch? (: i really like it. so bright and cheery.

us at Gelare. my hair looks long again doesnt it? hmm. we met Heike there. apparently she has been working there, so we got discount for the gorgeous chocolate chip waffle with chocolate overload ice-cream. which we dug into right away and finished it so fast i didnt get to take pictures. ahwells. oh wait. i didnt explain why i was deliriously happy. because squiggletown has got international visitors!!! oh my. germany, spain, australia and even china. i'm wondering where .net is from. but yes. i am. very happy that is. haha. its a great boost to my self-esteem. see whenever one indulges in craft - for me that would be beading, scrapping, claying, (a bit of sewing and wood stuff..does baking count?) - there's a tendency to feel unsure about one's ability. questions like does this appeal to people? is it really okay? is it too mismatched? too tacky? once in awhile, its nice to have reassurances. for the most part, craft for me is a hobby. having sales or compliments is an added bonus.

i think i'm rambling - and incoherently at that. its just one of those times, when you have a myriad..uh..plethora of emotions and you just dont know how to pen it down.

decided to try and post more regularly. tho its kinda hard to keep track of both squiggletown and this. but i've decided that squiggletown should remain solely my blogshop, and this can be where i post my pictures of scrapbook related entities and foodie entries of course. i suppose my gallery in a way. yea. (: so here are the altered notebooks i did for my mom and the scrapframes. hopefully this is neater and less confusing!

yes they are. i cant seem to stop buying them from the USA. shall be eagerly awaiting my enormous mail of vintage flowers this week (: oh the anticipation.

and i just love the new ipod nano!!!!! i mean just LOOK at it! its SQUARE! let the pictures speak for themselves.

i would have gotten the nokia 7600 too (cos as you've guessed its square. haha. yea, i'm obsessed i know) but then nokia 7370 came along..and i still think its the most gorgeous phone around. white and gold - classic favourite.

on another note, school starts tmr. busy busy busy!

its really been quite a blue morning. kept raining..i almost got the clothes drenched in the rain - thank God i got the awning up just in time. anyhow, i realise that ever since i got this blog up..i've been journaling less. which is bad, cos i wanna scrap all these photos, but the moment has passed and the feeling isnt the same. i feel like scrapbooking should be done whilst in the midst of the moment. its only then the feel of the day can be captured.
